In Case You Didn't Notice, The World Did End Last Week - For the Citroen C6

It seems that 5000 years ago, the Mayans predicted the end of time for the Citroen C6. Production of the Citroen C6 ended on 19 December 2012. So what does this really mean for Citroen, and for fans of this unique French large, luxury car?

In truth, not much -- Now don't miss understand me. I'm probably the biggest fan of the C6 on this side of the pond. I made serious inquires into having one imported. But the truth is that it is just the end of another automotive model. Reading something into it about the health of PSA Peugeot Citroen, or the ability of European Companies to innovate, or -- or whatever is simply irrational.

Citroen, and thus innovative French business sedans are still doing fine. You can still by a loaded version of the Citroen C5, and in my opinion, it is better looking than the C6. The C5 has all of the quirks like Hydraulic suspension and a concave rear glass that started with the CX, and make these cars what they are.

Furthermore, there's on-going talk of a large, luxury future model - perhaps to be called the DS9, and released in at least some markets in 2013. I personally liked the looks (and the name) of the Citroen Metropolis better, but from both an aerodynamics point of view, and a marketing one, I can see the advantages of the Numero 9 prototype.

It just better have hydropneumatic suspension, otherwise it will mean that PSA Peugeot Citroen is doomed, and the ability of European Companies to innovate has been lost forever, and we're all doomed to pushing ourselves around in Fred Flintstone cars.
